Dragan Kurbalija and Kevin Graham, Gardening Gays

Kevin and Dragan work a 27 acre farm in King George, Virginia.

The flower bar! Ready made bouquets.

Kevin Graham and Dragan Kurbalija both grew up in the great outdoors, sort of. Kevin’s ‘mandatory fun’ was pitching in with his father’s landscaping company. Afterword, his siblings and he swore they would never own a plant that needed tending.

Dragan grew up on a farm, but did not set out to be a farmer. These two gentlemen are not just casual about their pursuit— this is a full scale operation, with eggs, broiler chickens, produce, and of course, flowers.

So how much does this cross over with gardening? Plenty!

Dragan and Kevin sell cut flowers at their flower bar, and the are particularly into cultivating and propagating hydrangeas and coleus.

But I must admit that I was also fascinated, as usual, because I will never own them, by the chicken thing.

We have a lovely chat about their journey and what it takes to run a farm!

Artist Karen Blair

You heard me mention my friend Karen Blair on the pod. Karen is a local Charlottesville artist who sponsors Into the Garden with Leslie

Have a look at what Karen can do— she worked with one of my listeners, Anne Brooks Rudzki, of Capital Roots Containers, and created this beautiful commission of Anne Brook’s garden.
